What other might think of as impossible and fail to do, the success story of NSU YES! starts from there. NSU YES! has never been afraid of anything and it shows in their every single events and works. Each and every member gives their all for this magnificent business club and one of the top clubs of North South University. They have always shown bravery to come up with contemporary topics and AD Maker Bangladesh is just an example of that. It was during 2010, somewhere around

the first quarter, after the success of Social Business Plan Competition (SBPC) Shah Md. Junayed, now the President of NSU YES! came up with this brilliant idea of organizing a TVC making competition. Everyone were ecstatic with the idea and then after a lot of scrutiny the General Secretary of NSU YES!, Faisal Zaman, came up with the simple but catchy name, “AD Maker”.

The plan to make it large was there right from the initiation. During our first season (during FALL 2010) we did not have enough budget to pull off a national event but despite a lot of constraints we did manage to prove that whatever the hurdles might be we can still organize one of the best and memorable events of the year for North South University. After the grand success of AD Maker 2010 we decided that we will not let any obstruction to stop us from taking it to a national level and organize AD Maker Bangladesh in an exquisite way, something that not only North South University but any universities has seen before. It will be a milestone for North South University.

Yes! we did what we set out for. We did make history. It was grand and matchless in true sense. We divided the competition into two – inter university and the other intra-NSU. First the intra-NSU round was held among the students of North South University. A total of 91 teams with a maximum of four members in each group, participated in this round. A workshop was held where the teams were divided into groups and each group was given different topics on which to make an advertisement. All the groups then presented their TVCs to the judging panel and finally only twelve teams made it to the inter-university round.

A total of 202 teams participated in this competition and a workshop was held with the help of our technical partner, ASIATIC JWT, which was conducted by Amitabh Reza, Piplu R Khan, Prithwi Raaz, Rashed Zaman, Nafis Sarwar, Shakib Chowdhury. The workshop was truly an experience of a lifetime for the participants. After the workshop some of the participants said that it was the best and the most well organized workshop they have ever attended. All the six conductors gave a total insight of TVC making and answered any queries that the participants had. It was an unforgettable experience for all the participants and future AD film makers.

All the teams were then again divided into groups and as Unilever Bangladesh were our Platinum sponsor so this time, the products (except Radio Foorti, the event partner) were, as expected, were of Unilever’s. They were given a detailed product briefing. By now we were striding on the path of our dream, it was already on the verge of making a history but we weren’t done yet. We had to nail it down as the most distinct and best event by any clubs at North South University.

To make it imperialistic we decided to organize the grand finale in the Plaza area of North South University in the most lavish and colorful manner. The grand finale of ADMAKER Bangladesh 2011 kept to its words and indeed it was GRAND. The entire campus buzzed on about the finale as the preparation was on full gear from the 13th of December 2011. The members of NSU YES! spent the whole night on campus just to make sure that every single details are done neatly. The plaza was getting ready adorned with the color red, black and white. The stage was ready, the tables waiting, the red carpet placed perfectly. As the sun retired the lights of AD Maker went up arousing the speculation even more. The guest started arriving, the final touches being finalized and the contestants ready to face each other, the creative fight was on!

One by one the 10 finalists made it to the stage, presented their TVC and presentation. They answered questions posed by the honorable judges, Daniel Afzalur Rahman, Chief Operations Officer of Radio Foorti, Piplu R. Khan, Apple Box, Tahmina Ferdousi, Senior Brand Manager of Clear, Unilever, and Asef Hassan, lecturer of North South University. Upon judging the many criteria of the contestants the judges gave their verdict. It was time for the results and the entire plaza area seemed to heat up in suspense despite the cold winter night.

The special guest for the night were, legendary actors, Mr. Aly Zaker, also the CEO of ASIATIC JWT, his wife Mrs. Sarah Zaker also the DMD of ASIATIC JWT. The Chairman of North South University, Mr. Md. Shahjahan. The Dean, School of Business North South University, Dr Abdul Hannan Chowdhury and the Faculty Adviser of NSU YES! Mr. Mohammad Sohail Mustafa. The time had arrived and the suspense was torn by the announcement of the winners of this year AD Maker Bangladesh 2011. The champion was team “Victorious Secret”, the first runners up was team “Fabricators” and the second runners up was team “Cheap Monks”.

The winner received a check of BDT 50,000 handed over by the guest of honor and a crest. The first runner up received a check of BDT 30,000 and a crest handed over by Aly Zaker. The second runners up received a check of BDT 20,000 and a crest handed by Sara Zaker The fight ended for the year, we found our winners and it was time for celebration. The buffet was open and everyone enjoyed the warm and delicious food under the open sky of North South University and enjoyed themselves.

For us it was a dream come true. Our hard work has been paid off in full. It is what our General Secretary Faisal Zaman said, “We dream big so we achieve big!” No matter what, one thing is for sure, in the words of our President, Shah Md. Junayed, “When you are a family you become stronger and because of the unity and bond that lies among the YES!ers, you are never alone.No hurdle feels like a hurdle but another gateway to opportunity.”

People are going to keep on talking about it for a long time and despite innumerous stumblingblocks in our road, we were always together, faced it all with intense determination. That’s why we still call ourselves and compelled others to believe that, “WE ARE THE BEST!” AD Maker Bangladesh has paved the way and we have certainly entrenched the benchmark for our decedents. The members will certainly take inspiration from this mega event and achievement and for now just wait for our next awe-inspiring events.
