I think I can sum up celebrity fashion trends for the upcoming year in just two words: boots and skin. Not at the same time, of course, we hope. A quick glance at the recent celebrity galas such as the Golden Globe awards or the Sundance film festival shows lots of skin. It almost seems as though the stars are vying with one another to show as much as possible while still having some fabric on their bodies.
Skirt slits are a big thing, with any star worth her $200 a session trainer was anxious to show off the beautiful gams she has developed. The latest trend is not just one, but two slits, so both legs show. (We already know, ladies, that if one is toned, the other one probably is too.)
Plunging necklines are nothing new for the star look, but this look has now reached new heights, or is it depths? Décolletage is so 2011, and now we are seeing dress fronts that open all the way to the belly button. Thank goodness for supportive sticky tape.
Backs are definitely in, again probably thanks to strict trainers. Many stars showed off beautifully sculpted lats and deltoids, with material draping in the back to just you know where.
Single shoulder styles are making a come back. Unlike most of the styles, this is a retro look, since many gowns of the forties featured this off balance look. But it is a great way to show off toned shoulders while adding a little more interest to a gown.
At the more casual gatherings, I couldn’t help but notice the stars were wearing the same outfits, but just in different materials. At Sundance, the ensemble of choice was
Jeans tucked into boots. The beauties could only be told apart by the variety of styles, colors and materials. Here are some samplings:
Boots are definitely in, and if you were surprised last year to see teens wearing boot with their shorts and cutoff jeans, expect more of this look in 2012. What the guys are wearing I will leave for another day, or another writer!
