Unthink vs Facebook

“Unthink”- the new anti Facebook social network

“Unthink” is the newest social network and it’s about as far from Facebook as you can get. Natasha Dedis , The CEO of Unthink, now being called the “anti-Facebook,” said that she got the idea for the social networking site after reading all the terms and conditions that Facebook and MySpace had for their users. She felt that these terms and conditions were outrageous, wondering how they could even be legal today. She refused to let her son open either a Facebook or MySpace account and set out to create a social network that gave users complete control over their personal information.

Natasha Dedis said that she felt as though her son’s information would have been held “hostage” by Facebook or MySpace. She believes that Facebook and Google + are both using their popularity to spy on users and continuously expose them to advertisements – all in a well hidden effort to make money. Unthink.com is now ready for users who will test out their beta phase of development. The video below pulls no punches when it comes to the company’s views of the current social network
choices. There are a number of ways that Unthink plans to let users control what information is available. First, user information is never sold to third parties. Secondly, all data for a user is set by default to private. Thirdly, users can choose bits and pieces of their data to keep private or make public. Finally, Unthink users get to choose what brands they want to follow and the information is keep in a whole other area from the traditional stream of information. If people don’t want any sponsors, it will cost them a fee each year to use Unthink. Now before you think, “ah, there’s the catch!” the fee is only two bucks a year.

Obviously, any challenge to Facebook is going to have a very hard road ahead. However, the company reports that traffic to the site has been nothing short of amazing today. While that doesn’t mean that Unthink will make it the top of the social networking list, it does appear that people are interested in something other than Facebook.
