Hewlett-Packard Agrees to $425,000 Civil Penalty for Failure to Immediately Report
After many complaints that were made over the course of multiple months, because HP has not made a faster decision regarding a series of notebooks, HP now has to pay a substantial fine. Considering that we are talking about some systems that had heating problems and even took fire, the $425,000 fine might seem small, as US Consumer Product Safety Commission decided.
In other ideas, consider the fact that the fine was issued to HP because they have delayed the procedure. Basically, only after 10 months since the first complaints were made, out of the 22 disastrous events (one user ended up in the hospital with burns), an investigation has been started and multiple notebooks were recalled by HP.
Also, you should know that the fine was issued only after HP recalled more than 90,000 notebooks which might have had problems caused by damaged batteries.
We seriously hope that you do not own a HP notebook with problems. Anyway, unfortunately, an important percentage of notebooks sold between 2007 – 2008 were shipped with these problems. To see if your notebook has problems, please go through the lists posted below.
