Adele: artist of the year
2011 was the year that belonged to the British singer. At 23 years of age she can afford to sit back and relax. She has achieved a lot more than many people can boast of in their entire lifespan. The nomination of Adele as Artist of the Year was an inspired choice which few people would disagree with. Having released her second album “21”, the singer sat back and saw the offers coming in. It was in February that she released the album. Within some months she has been able to sell
more copies of the album than any artist on the global market. At the last time of asking there were 13 million copies sold. There is pathos which is sufficient to make an operative role shine but she did not choose that field.
The United Kingdom is not really known for passionate singers. That is the genre in which the Italians excel but with Adele we have a phenomenon that is capable
of overtaking any obstacle in her way. Sadly this success has come at a time when she is physically incapable of singing. The singer recently had surgery to remove a benign polyp within her throat. For a few weeks she was not allowed to speak at all if the voice was going to be saved. She wrote regular updates on her blog to tell
fans about the process that she was going through. Six Grammy Award nominations beckon. In interview the singer is genuine and down to earth. Records were a big part of Adele’s upbringing and she credits them with giving her inspiration. She tries to make a distinction between her professional life and her family unit. The singer says that her family is somewhat baffled by the level of success that she has enjoyed. She is quick to pay tribute to Amy Winehouse: “I certainly think Amy set the bar and a standard, but for singers and artists in general”. Many people will be hoping that the singer can carry on that tradition.
