Podolski in Arsenal?

Is Podolski coming at Arsenal?

News across UK claim that Lukas Podolski is coming at Arsenal to support Robin Van Persie. Arsenal is preparing a bid for the Cologne player. Only 18 months are left on his contract and so far Podolski has not come to terms with the German club on a new deal. So for Cologne this will be the right time to make a deal with Arsenal if they do not want to sell their star striker cheaply or for free. It is believed that Arsenal are preparing a bid for £10 million for the German striker. Podolski has told a German newspaper, Sport Bild in mid-December last week that he doesn’t want to move to another German club if he fails to come in terms with Cologne. He wants to move outside Germany. In that case Premier League offers him a great opportunity.

Arsenal are in desperate need of a good striker though they have Gervinho and Chamakh to support RVP but they are not scoring goals in a regular basis and not proving enough potent striking force for Arsenal to seriously challenge a spot at the top flight. Moreover Marouane Chamakh and Gervinho is moving back to Africa for the African Cup of Nations to represent their respective countries. So Wenger will need more striking force otherwise Robin Van Persie won’t be able to manage it all by his own.

Arsene Wenger is already trying to bring back Arsenal legend Thierry Henry back on a two month loan deal but everyone knows that he has surpassed his peak and is not the same Henry that captained Arsenal. He is old now and does not have the same flair as he had when he left Arsenal. Podolski on the other hand is much more energetic and has been in a superb form and is third in the Bundesliga scoring charts with 14 goals in 16 games. Per Mertesacker who came to the Emirates stadium in the summer also suggested Podolski at Arsenal saying, “He is a powerful, great player, especially for the national team.”

However, all said, it should be remembered that Wenger is not a man to splash cash – especially at this time of the season. His last big signing at January transfer window was during 2009 when he bought Andrei Arshavin from Russia.
