Real Madrid now has a clear advantage after Barcelona stumble

Espanyol pulled a late equalizer to make life difficult for Barcelona. Thanks to the lowly neighbors of Barcelona, Real Madrid now has 5 points lead in the top of La Liga over second placed Barcelona. Barcelona were in line to win the match and reduce their points difference to just a win. They scored the first goal through Cesc Fabregas in the 16th minute but failed to build on that. Barca did have a lot of efforts but were ruled out for handball or offside. Just five minutes before the final whistle Espanyol scored to break the hearts of the European Champions.

Immediately after falling behind Espanyol attacked and had a lot of possession. They were pressurizing Barca but could not find the nets. In the 85th minute Raul Rodriguez crossed to Koulossa Thievy who passed it to Alvaro Vazquez to slot home the equalizer. Barcelona tried desperately to snatch the winner but failed to make any opportunity count.

Guardiola is not very disappointed with the effort as he said that there are still a lot of matches left in the league and their opposition also has some tough meetings ahead. Now he will analyze their performance and try to correct the things that went wrong.
