Black Day for Football

Black Day for Football

What is much more depressing than a game of entertainment became the game of death and bring grief in a country? Of course nobody wanted it but the recent picture the football match in Egypt shows us that what football excitement can do. But it will not be fare to the football if we only blame it alone because as the information is showing that some political issue was also present in this incident. The incident started in Port Said where the football match had taken place between top Cairo club al-Ahly and the Port Said side al-Masry. Fans from these two invaded the pitch and started to attack each other which caused 74 deaths. Some of the victim’s funeral took place in Port Said.

But this incident was not the end. Egypt was waiting to see much more deaths. The al-Ahly supporters gathered outside the club's stadium in Cairo and marches towards and Tahrir Square and then on to the ministry of interior. Police fired tear gas to keep them away from the ministry. The protesters were chanting, our army first choose between the revolutionariesand the military council. Egyptian state news agency Mena quoted a health ministry official that 388 protesters were injured. And the reason was tear gas inhalation as well as the scratches and broken bones from rocks. Not only this, two people have been killed by police while they were trying to scatter the crowd.

The inefficiency of the Egypt police is not new because they have been keeping a much lower profile since last year's popular protests. The Muslim Brotherhood, which has appeared as Egypt's biggest party in recent elections, blamed ex-President Mubarak's supporters for the violence.
