Snow-free Swiss Ski Resort
Switzerland’s traditional start of ski season has been interrupted by a shortage of snow across the Alps. Autumn has been the recorded driest season in the country. The continuing drought brings bad news for the tourism industry of this country. Switzerland’s tourism is already suffering from the strong Swiss franc. Davos and St. Moritz are the big resorts of Switzerland. These types of big resorts are covering the situation with the help of snow cannons but they are not sufficient. But other
resorts could not start because of the delay.
Already skiing holiday in Switzerland is far more expensive than France, Italy or Austria this year because The Franc has risen sharply against the euro, the British Pound and the US dollar. And the snow free autumn had added tension to the hoteliers, lift companies and instructors of ski. Though there were some snows in parts of the Swiss Alps early on Saturday but those was not enough to lessen the tension.
Not only Switzerland, other Alpine resorts in neighboring countries are also facing the same disaster. 15 chimney sweepers has been hired by a hotel in Austria's Katschberg Mountains to pray for snow because they believe that it is associated with good luck in the country. Wolfgang Hinteregger, the hotel manager, said that
they are hopeful that things will go well soon.
