Rio de Janeiro Building Collapse Tragedy

Illegal building construction has again created havoc in Reo de Janeiro. Late on Wednesday the disastrous event took place as three high rise office buildings collapsed. The buildings were situated by the Municipal Theatre and the headquarters of oil giant petro bras that a four storied structure under construction. One of the collapsed building was a 20 storied. So it doesn’t need to mention the loss of property and lives. After the collapsing incident rescue party rushed to the place of occurrence and rescued bodies of four people. As 16 others remain missing, the rescue workers think that it will be unlikely if many people are alive among the missing. With dozens of rescue workers attending the occurrence place and police cordoning the area at least six people were taken to the hospital for treatment. Supply of electricity of the area was cut off for safety reasons and avoiding further risk.

While the emergency workers are searching through rubbles the officials are searching the cause of the collapse. They suspect that illegal building work is the main reason behind this. The Associated Press reported that Janitor Marcelo Moreira who was one of the fortunate survivors, was in an eight storied building. His friend Rosalvo Alves, his friend and colleague stated that ha had stayed behind to finish some work and then he supposed to leave. Rosalvo was lucky to leave before the incident. But now his friend is hurt, his job is gone which was everything to him. He doesn’t know whether he is lucky or not.

Even though the rescue workers lost hope of the possibilities of the missing people to be alive but the unfound people’s friend and relatives still have hope that their loved ones will come back alive. Marcelo de Souza the owner of the nearby café also had to lose his livelihood and witness his possessions turn into dust. A building inspector Luiz Cosenza feared that Brazil’s Globo television network could have been a factor, AFP reported. He also stated that two illegal projects, which were not registered with the council, were happening in on the 16th floor of the building. Some fear that this disaster may effect the preparations of Olympic games which is going to be held at Reo de Janeiro in Brazil.
